Onwards and Upwards...
Well, with the heavens opening and the winds carving up the land,
i think that we can safely say that the summer of 2009 has died and gone to meet it's maker. All of us here at
B.U.A.S (We're moving into shiny new "offices" in a matter of days!) hope that you have had a good one while it lasted.
The Time has come however that we should all be returning to our work, studies or whatever else it is you do. There
has been little rest for us over the summer though. Many have been on digs whilst the rest of us have been slaving
away to make the upcoming year our greatest yet. We've finally been dragged kicking and screaming into the mordern
era with a New Youtube Channel (see the links page) which will bring you all the latest news as and when it happens.
Theres also been a slight reworking on the website design. In terms of events, we're starting the year with
an epic tour around the archaeological sites of Bangor. Our Thursday Lecture series will continue- and i'm getting
rumours of some fantastic Speakers...

Society Awards Success
All in all, it's generally been a good year for the society- we've
gone from strength to strength- forming new links with Chester Archaeology Society, increasing our membership and
generally making sure you all have a good time. To top off a great year however- we have been recognized at
this years society awards- winning three individual awads- a Gold award for former head of Society David Moon,
a Gold for Harry Bush for his work on publicity and events and a silver award for James Churchill BUAS's Head of
IT. Not only this, we have also won a group award for the Most Improved society of 2009. We all think
this is an outstanding achievement, especially for a society that was about to go under. It's not just down
to us though- we would like to thank you, the members for your continued support over the last year- and
a special thanks goes to David Moon for his help, advice and guidance. Without him, none of this would be possible.
And Next Year we pledge to make the society bigger, better and stronger than ever!

Frongoch Latest
Unfortunately, i have some very sad news to report. It appears that
our planned excavation of Frongoch will have to be shelved. I am sure that you feel as we do about this, and
let me tell you that we are absolutely gutted. The reason is that in our preliminary research (80% of Archaeology
is done in the library, as says Indiana Jones)we have been in contact with CADW who have told us that there is
in fact nothing to excavate. One half of the camp was destroyed during the construction of a dam, and the other now
has a school built on top of it. We are all incredibly saddened by this. However, we can say that we are currently
looking for another, even better site to excavate. Keep your eyes peeled.
Frongoch News!
The news you have all been waiting for has finally arrived.
The society has gone underway and are now going ahead with the planned excavation at Frongoch, Bala.
BUAS chair Ryan Forde has told us that “To quote Indiana Jones, 80% of excavation is done in the library.
By this I mean that were going to spend the first few months researching the project, getting detailed maps -
going to the site and developing a good sense of the history of the site. This research is going to be a major
part as (to our knowledge) no excavation has ever been undertaken. Our project is going to be major in terms of
internment camps in Britain.
At this moment
in time we have teams undertaking the research and as soon as some major development occur we will let you know!”

Spring Lecture Series Preview
I am pleased to announce that we can finally give you a preview of what
is coming up in our spring lecture series. Over the Last week, our events and publicity officer, Harry Bush,
has been working hard getting in touch with people and generally pieceing together the programe for the forthcoming
few months. We can confirm that we have a Marine Archaeologist lined up as well as distinguished Professors from as
far afield as Sheffield and London. We also have a special treat lined up for the end of the year. Keep your eyes
peeled for more news soon!

New Executive, New Website, New Look Society!
Following the appointment of a whole new Executive in November,
The Bangor University Archaeology has undergone several changes. I am sure you will have no doubt noticed
the website which has been completely rebuilt from scratch by our new vice chair. This is not the only change
however. The new executive society intends to make the society even bigger and better than it ever has been
before. Watch this space for News of what's going down.
