Bangor Muddogs American Football Club

The Bangor MudDogs have represented the University in the UK’s fastest growing student sport since joining the BUAFL (British Universities American Football League) as an associate member in 2008–09 and playing competitively from 2009–10. The MudDogs were Bangor AU’s Varsity Team of the Year in 2010–11 and, after finishing the 2011–12 season with a 5–3 record and narrowly missing out on a play-off position in the very competitive Northern Conference, were awarded Bangor’s AU 2011–12 Team Of The Year.

The team plays on a full 100 yard pitch with Y posts imported from the USA (believed to be only one of three UK institutions to have such posts at the start of 2011–12) and has a fully developed programme, complete with several qualified coaches, for training complete novices throughout the academic year to participate in the full contact version of the sport. The club is also planning to introduce the non-contact 5 v 5 ‘flag’ version of the game for tournaments against other university clubs in the spring of 2013 as well as for AU inter-mural competitions during 2012–13.

The club also has a very active social scene, arranging access to watch live NFL game every Sunday throughout the season which culminates in the annual Super Bowl party with a late licence. There is also a very active following of American college football within the club.

The club welcoming anyone, novice or veteran, male or female, who want to find out about playing the sport, just watching the sport or being part of the non-playing part of the club by being a coach or other member of game day sideline staff. Further information about the club and all its activities are available at the website link below or on our Facebook page.
