What is BEDS?
BEDS is an abbreviation of the Bangor English Dramatic Society. We have been going so long no one quite knows when we started; what we do know is the modern form of BEDS became affiliated to the Students Union in 2002 and we have been going from strength to strength ever since!

How many plays do you do?
It varies slightly from year to year but on average we do three to four plays each academic year however the society is getting bigger so we will produce as many plays as we have people for! We aim to perform our first plays before Christmas, our second one in the new year and the final performance before the Easter holidays.

What kind of plays do you do?
Any kind of play is open for performance by BEDS. In recent years we have performed student written pieces, Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde and contempoary comedies.

How can I be in a play?
If you have a passion for acting we'd love you to join us on stage! Becoming a BEDS member at the start of the academic year is the typical route to playing a role in one of our plays. However if its past that time theres no harm in emailing us to see if there's any parts still going.

I've never acted before, am I still welcome?
BEDS has a vast array of talent and backgrounds. Many people have had their first acting role for BEDS so people new to acting are very welcome.

Have you won any kind of awards recently for your performances?
We have won awards for our performances two years running now and are the only society to claim this feat in Bangor. In 2006 we won the Student Union 'Magic Moment' of the year award for 'Allo 'Allo. In 2007 we won the Student Union Performance of the Year award for 'Fawlty Towers'

Why should I join BEDS rather than any other drama society in the university?
BEDS is a society that always tries to get everyone involved. No matter how much experience you have had we will always find a role for you. We take everyone’s opinions on board and try to produce plays that suit the entire group. If you want to be involved in an award winning drama society then this is the group for you!

I don't want to act. Can I still get involved?
Of course! No play gets anywhere without a director or the back stage crew. If you fancy yourself as the next Alfred Hitchcock or are interested in set design then BEDS has got a role for you!

Where do you perform?
BEDS meet every Wednesday at 7pm in the refurbished JP Hall

Do I have to pay to join?
In order for us to be affiliated to the Students Union we are required to ask for a membership fee. However this is a measly £5 for the entire year.
