David Morris
Candidate for: Executive without Portfolio

David Morris

My name is David Morris and I am standing for the position of. I am a second year Theology student, and have an interest in the affairs of our Students Union and would like to play a more active part. I am currently Senior Student/Chair of Rathbone JCR as well as an Independent Councillor on SU Council, a member of UWB Pride and have been a member of the Campaigns group. I have therefore had some experience of the workings of the students union and in other areas of university life.

If I were elected to the position of Executive without portfolio I would firstly fulfil the description outlined for this position to the best of my ability:

  • Assisting my fellow members of the executive wherever there is a need.
  • Ensuring that my specific responsibility for independent councillors and all ethical and environmental issues is upheld to the highest standard.

I aim to:

  • Highlight the issue of Diversity within the union and university, making it a year long focus with more than the annual diversity week.
  • Ensure that discrimination is brought to an all time low, and that minority groups and those who are subjected to such behaviour are represented and have a voice and a greater sense of security and freedom.
  • Encourage groups affiliated to the Union and within the University to partake in dialogue, particularly religious and cultural groups to promote tolerance, understanding and sensitivity.
