Elections 2006
Gerallt Wyn Roberts
Candidate for: UMCB President
My name is Gerallt Wyn Roberts and I’m originally from Aberffraw on Anglesey. I am now in my third year studying for a Leisure Management BA. I’m particularly enjoying my course and have been fortunate enough to travel to places like the Netherlands, Ireland and Barcelona as part of my studies.
I have lived in John Morris Jones, the Welsh language hall of residence here in Bangor for three years and have really enjoyed my time here in Bangor, especially living in JMJ. I was fortunate enough this year to be Hall President and have enjoyed organising activities and keeping the hall in order.
It is because of this that I’m putting myself forward for the post of UMCB President. I feel that I know what the students here in Bangor need and what is required of an UMCB President. Obviously my main intention would be to be there for the students and I would always put the students first. I think that spending time in JMJ would be a good thing for the President to do as it is the heart of the Welsh society in Bangor.
It’s a pity that Y Ddraenen, the Welsh language student newspaper, hasn’t been published this year. If I were elected I would like to work on ensuring that Y Ddraenen was restored. Obviously organising activities is an essential part of the work e.g. the Gloddest (annual dinner), rugby trips, Clwb Cymru and the Inter-Collegiate events. I enjoy work of this kind and it has been part of my degree course as well as being part of the responsibility of the JMJ President. In addition to this I would like to organise more leisure activities and continue with the UMCB football team that plays on Sundays.
As I’m graduating this year I feel that I can put plenty of time into the role and that I will do my best for the Welsh students here at Bangor.
