People & Planet

People & Planet

People & Planet Bangor meets every Thursday in the Conference Room of the Anglican Chaplaincy on Prince’s Road (off College Road) at 7:00pm. Every week we screen short movies or interviews on issues related to sustainability, environmental degradation, climate change and/or positive solutions (no longer than 50 minutes), followed by tea & biscuits. Afterwards, the committee meets to discuss future events and actions. Everyone is welcome to these meetings and your initiative and input is greatly appreciated. You can be as active or passive as you like. Of course, you are also very welcome to just come for the movies and leave after tea and biscuits.

Even though we, at People & Planet Bangor have specific goals and aims (see below), we are always open to your own passions or initiatives and want to support each other to make a difference!

We, at People & Planet Bangor, are passionate about…

To fulfil the general aims, the society has the following specific aims:

  1. Raising awareness and enthusiasm by inviting speakers, screening movies, organising socials, public events, challenges and lectures as well as sharing information and publications.
  2. Initiating environmental projects and projects empowering individuals to work towards sustainability
  3. Monitoring and driving action taken by the University and individual departments.
  4. Within the society, to question the current lifestyle of western society and to discuss how to initiate change.
  5. Encouraging students and staff to use sustainable facilities, which are provided by the University (e.g. recycling, two-sided printing).
  6. Working together with and complementing other action groups within the University.
  7. Producing annual sustainability reports from the student perspective.
