Comedy Society

Comedy Society

Hello! BU Comedy Society is one of the most active and awesome societies at Bangor University. The society provides a friendly, relaxed environment to anyone who wishes to get involved and try their hand. There are opportunities for people of all levels (including those who have never had a go at comedy before) wanting to write, perform, produce, improvise, do stand up and watch comedy. In our brief life we have won a variety of awards, including the prestigious Best Performance 2010–2011.

Comedy SocietyWe have three main branches of the society: improvised comedy (known as ImpSoc), sketches and stand up, and radio comedy.

ImpSoc has two sessions a week. The first session is on a Monday, which is mainly about having fun, playing a range of games that you have seen on Whose Line Is It Anyway or Mock the Week. The Thursday improv session is a little bit more advanced, looking at long form (devised scenes and stories), and techniques to be a better improviser. We’d recommend going to a Monday session first, and if the improv bug bites you’re welcome to come on Thursday too.

Comedy SocietySketches and stand up meet up on alternate Tuesdays, running through sketches which our members have written, and looking through stand up routines. To find out what is on each week, check us out on facebook.

Our various radio comedy groups don’t have a regular session, but if you have an idea for a show, or would like to get involved in a show that we already do, please email comedy@undeb.bangor.ac.uk with radio in the subject box, or jot something on our facebook page.

If you can think of any other types of comedy you’d like to have a go at, let us know!

Comedy SocietyJoining the society is also an excellent way to meet new people, with regular social events taking place. These are always good fun, cheap, and provide a place to talk about your favourite comedians, routines, and share ideas with like minded people (and other things!). Our socials include trips to the pub, the fun centre, camping, and trips to various comedy events.

We’re not just about getting involved. A comedy society would be nothing without an audience. Lots of our shows are completely free, and those that aren’t are only a couple of quid. We perform all across Bangor, from the Belle Vue to the Menai, and from little lecture rooms to the 100 seat JP theatre hall. All of the latest information about our shows in on our facebook group, and we also have an email list just for people who want to see comedy – to join this, drop us an email, pop your head into a session, or sign up at Serendipity.

If you want to have a look at some of the shows we have done in the past, why not check us out on youtube.

See you all soon!
