The Welsh Students’ Union
Shwmae and croeso (welcome) to the UMCB webpages! The Bangor Welsh Students Union (Undeb Myfyrwyr Cymraeg Bangor - UMCB) represents the interests of every Bangor University student who can speak or is learning Welsh, or who has an interest in the Welsh language and culture.
This includes supporting and representing Welsh-speaking students who are having problems with their course or with any aspect of university life with respect to language, encouraging non-Welsh speaking students to learn the language, helping non-Welsh speaking students who want to learn the language, creating opportunities for Welsh speakers and learners to socialise and live their lives through the medium of Welsh, promoting Welsh culture to the University's students and staff, strengthening the status of the language within the Union, University and local community.
Becoming a member
Thanks to the Union, joining UMCB and taking part in one of our clubs or societies is free of charge. The only thing you have to do is come and see me at the Union, or contact me at Guto with:
- Your name
- University e-mail (e.g. weu123)
- Mobile phone number
UMCB is open to anyone who wants to join, whether you can speak Welsh, are learning the language, or have an interest in the Welsh language and culture.
Supporting other Unions
As part of the Council of Unions' Welsh Language Officers, UMCB has the opportunity to help other Unions with Welsh Language representation and support.
Currently Cardiff Students' Union are going through a refferendum to see if they would like to see a Full Time Welsh Language Officer in their Students' Uinion. As part of one of the recommendations in the HE Student Unions' Welsh Language Charter, and through our experience of having a full time officer we fully support this campaign and wish the very best for Cardiff.
You can follow their campaign HERE.
